Big car owners want quirk-fixes

NEW DELHI: A Texas ranger who wanted to immortalise his pet cow after it died asked a bunch of BMW designers to customise his car's upholstery with its hide. Indian high-end car buyers may not go to such great lengths but they do have their quirks. While some insist on a particular shade of champagne, others are wont to pick up show models, no matter what the cost. And the snootier the car, the quirkier some of the requests that come with it. Take BMW. Its M6 show car that was on display in one of its dealerships attracted the attention of a customer who wanted it right there, right then. "The dealer tried to explain that it was a show car but the customer was persistent and in the end, the car was sold," says BMW India president Peter Kronschnabl. BMW's 7 Series customers routinely ask for some nifty bells and whistles.
